Gift Ideas for Triathletes

For more on this go to - Trifuel
Stocking Stuffers
Here are some small gift ideas that any triathlete would enjoy this holiday season.
• Help any triathlete save time getting secured in their running shoes with a set of Xtenex Laces. These unique laces have an elastic core and a series of knots along the entire length of the lace at consistent length intervals. Stretch the lace and the knots disappear, release the tension and the knots reappear. The more knots between the eyelets on the shoes lessens the tension; the fewer knots between eyelets increases tension. This technology enhances footwear fit, comfort and performance. They are available in a wide variety of colors! MSRP: $19.95 (www.xlaces.com)
• Here is a little something for the triathlete who has accomplished the ultimate test of endurance or one day dreams of doing so - a Silver M-Dot key chain. The nice thing about this key chain is that it’s not made out of plastic; it’s a nice hunk of metal and has a nice price to go with it. MSRP: $7.95 (www.shopironman.com)
• Triathlon involves spending a lot of time training and/or racing on a bike which can cause chafing in some sensitive areas. Here is a product that will make a triathlete’s ride more comfortable, DZ Nuts high viscosity chamois cream. DZ Nuts is scientifically formulated to minimize the effects of chafing and burning every time they ride. MSRP: $23.00 (www.dznuts.com)
• Here is a good stocking stuffer, a pair of SLS3 Compression Sox. Their innovative graduated compression technology maximizes the blood circulation in the muscles. The supportive effect and the compression of the SLS3 Compression Sox reduce the muscle vibration drastically, which leads to less damage of the soft tissue and less sore muscles. This will improve their performance in training, competition and recovery. MSRP: $57.95 (www.slstri.com)
• A bike mechanical issue is bound to happen to any triathlete. The end result after fixing the problem could be dirty and greasy hands. How about getting them some Grease Monkey Wipes so they can cleanup after their unfortunate situation. Grease Monkey Wipes are individually packaged cleaning wipes that use an all-natural citrus formula to easily remove grease, grime, oil or other messes from skin and surfaces. They can store one in their bike bag or tuck one in their jersey when training or racing. MSRP: $11.99 for 12 Wipes (www.greasemonkeywipes.com)

From Be Sportier
"New snowboard technology or we should say snowsport goggle technology like these Recon Goggles may make things a little more futuristic. Recon Goggles will feature a 15mm diagonal micro display will provide you with your real-time speed, jump hang-time, vertical gain/loss, altitude, temperature and will even include a stopwatch and GPS capability for rescue situations (great safety perk). Recon, a Vancouver company, is even trying to enable the goggle lens to show you where your friends are on the mountain. A future release is supposed to have resort trail maps projected too! Out this coming Fall, the goggle will weigh 120 grams, and will come in two styles with the difference between the two being in the quality of the lens and resolution of the picture. Look for the Recon goggles to be available in Fall of 2010 for between $350 and $450."

Revolution 26 heats up

From Road Cycling UK
Going into the evening it was the Rob Hayles’ Forza team who led the overall competition having performed well across the first evenings racing back in November. Before the nights racing began Rob was in bullish mood when asked how Team Forza would be approaching the nights racing.

“We’re gonna go on the attack again. It’s the best form of defence I think. But it’s going to be a different race tonight, there’s a lot of other guys here that weren’t here last time round and we’ll just have to wait and see but we’ve just got to try and get up there in as many races as we can”

Hot on the heels of Team Forza were the Slicks, led by Craig Maclean. Craig bagged a number of victories across the first Revolution underlining his teams sprint credentials, this time around his team would be boosted by the addition of Bradley Wiggins, a change that was immediately felt as Wiggins coasted to victory in the first bunch race of the night to set the early pace and draw first blood for the Slicks. Dean Downing of the Flyers summed up the feelings of the rest of the bunch about having Bradley back:

Snowboarding through the SnowTunnel

Well most people need to have snow year round to do their sport of choice. Well the SnowTunnel is here to help, well only if you are in Dubai's lavish indoor ski slopes in the middle of the desert. The Snowtunnel is a fairly simple device mechanically - a corrugated steel drum that has refrigerant piped through it to cool the metal. When water is sprayed on the drum's interior, it quickly freezes. Then, a rider hops inside on a snowboard and sets the drum rotating at a speed they're comfortable with, catching an edge on the iced-over metal and riding it like a cross between a snowboarder and a tube-riding surfer.

Zipp - Speed Weaponry | Wheels | 303 Tubular

Zipp - Speed Weaponry | Wheels | 303 Tubular

The latest version of the Zipp 303 Tubular wheelset was engineered for the rough roads and rugged weather of the spring classics. But, at 1171grams, it’s lighter than many pure climbing wheelsets. So we weren’t surprised that Cervélo TestTeam’s Heinrich Haussler picked 303s for the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix and then rode them to win a Tour de France mountain stage by more than 4 minutes.
Introduced in April 2009, the current 303 tubular is more than 5mm wider and 1mm deeper than its predecessor. Without adding a gram, these changes substantially improved the already superb impact resistance of Zipp’s Carbon Bridge™ technology while offering a more comfortable, forgiving radial stiffness. At the same time, the wider, deeper rim increased the 303’s lateral stiffness for sprinting, cornering, and accelerations. Another benefit is that wider tires have minimal impact on the wheel’s superior aerodynamics.
Meanwhile, the 303’s tire bed has been redesigned to protect against tire damage and pinch flats at low pressure, and for more precise mounting of tubulars. In poor weather, riders will appreciate the improved brake modulation of the new 303’s angled brake track.
Especially for smaller riders like Olympic champion Emma Snowsill, the 303’s stability in crosswinds – combined with its lightness and aero advantages – makes it an ideal choice for draft-legal triathlons on the ITU circuit. It’s equally at home on the muddiest, most rutted of cyclocross courses with top US riders Katie Compton, Todd Wells, and the Cyclocrossworld.com team of Tim Johnson, Jeremy Powers, and Jamey Driscoll.

Twist And Trash The Can

Somethings are obvious other take some time like this idea from Designers: Jiwoon Park & Kwenyoung Choi. There are two things make the NNew Can stand out; one it has a deliberate spiral shape and two its opening-clip has an uplifted indent. The reason for the spiral shape is obvious, it makes it easier for you to twist and crush the can with hand and dump it into the trashcan. And the reason for the indent in the clip is so that you can open the can easily without chipping a nail. I endorse the second reason wholeheartedly coz I always manage to clip mine while opening my soda-can!

Europe gets it, USA make it happen!

When you see simple ideas implemented you can't stop to wonder why it is not universal. This "Vorstellwagen" was first available in 1983 to ferry biking commuters between Stuttgart and the mountain town. It travels just 2 kilometers, but with over 200 meters of elevation change between the two stations and a maximum 20% slope. 1983 wow and still no luck. You have the west coast that without a thought would get this done. Who will be the first in the US.

Mini Cooper into Fitness

So not only is Mini Coopers fuel efficient they are now crossing over into bikes. It seems this is the right of passage for most successful car companies to make a bike.
From Road Cycle UK
According to the official blurb, both bikes will “exhibit the modern aggressive styling of a track bike, and combine confident, sharp handling with comfort and smoothness.” The T100 Monza is supplied in dark blue with flat bars and the T100 Sebring is finished in silver, and has bullhorn bars. ABS-Avalanche Airbag

Fall is upon us and that means switching gears, mountain biking, trail running, and yes skiing starts to creep in the picture. Well feel a little more secured with the ABS-Avalanche Airbag system, wears like a back pack, then pull to inflate.

Once activated, the ABS equalizes the volume and density of the victim relative to the surrounding snow by working on the principle of "inverse particles" .

...and you are ontop within 2 seconds.

As with a life vest in the water, the victims swims on the surface of the avalanche. The added volume of 150 liters has been calculated to be needed for cold, dry and loose snow. If the snow is denser, wetter and heavier less volume is needed. The statistics show that all victims carried down by a moving avalanche stayed on top and survived the incident (see the statistics) .

So be safe get prepared and hey have an advantage if you are playing out of bounds.

Rappel Belt

Ok not that you would but know that you could. There is no gadgets, technology or fancy buttons on this belt, strap in on and it holds up your pant. A bit different than the standard a conversation piece as well. Lightweight, flexible, and comfortable uniform belt that can be used for emergency rappels. Does not dig into waist when bending or moving like other brands.
Worth the price - $24

Kurt Kinetic Wired/Wireless Power Computer!

Affordable, and if you have a Kurt Kinetic already then you are really in business. On the off season you can be tracking all the important data instead of just spinning away for countless hours.

Wired Version
he Kinetic Wired Power Computer is designed to give you accurate power (watt) readings when you are using a Kinetic Trainer. All other functions (speed, distance, cadence, calorie burn, altimeter, etc) are accurate both on and off the trainer. Because of this, the Kinetic Power Computer is an excellent choice for a cycling computer both on and off the trainer.

The watts reading is calibrated based on a mathematical relationship between power and speed. This Kinetic Power Formula along with our proprietary software accurately estimates the cumulative effect of 16 different interactive forces. This power curve is based on the "average " rider on the "outdoor ride" using the following cubic function: P = (5.244820) * S + (0.01968) * S3. S=speed in miles per hour, P=power in Watts

Rock Tape The Next Answer To Compression Gear

It seems as though Ironman is thinking of banning compression sock, so with everything there is always an answer and since they used it in the Olympics, why not try it. RockTape is that answer.
The Story
Just like you, I’m an avid amateur athlete…
I’m fit, but my love of running, cycling and swimming have contributed to a variety of minor sports injuries, and one of those injuries required physical therapy. The PT treated me and finished the session by applying some tape to my leg. When I asked if this was the same tape I had seen during the Olympics, the answer was yes.

I was skeptical about the tape, but after a week my injury was healing nicely and I also noticed that my legs felt pretty good after a long ride. I started doing more research on the tape’s effects and that’s when I discovered that the tape can be used to ENHANCE PERFORMANCE. I found that taping in advance of exercise promotes increased blood flow to the muscles, thereby reducing fatigue.

After trying the tape on friends and family with good results, I got excited and talked to a number of companies about buying and selling the tape. The response I got was amazing: no one wanted to sell me tape unless I became “certified” in their specific taping methods. It was their way of making the tape more exclusive and expensive. I decided there had to be a better way to get this great product into the hands of those who needed it, so I located a source, modified the formula and formed ROCKTAPE.

I hope you love ROCKTAPE as much as I do, but if you don’t, we offer a 100% money-back guarantee. So what do you have to lose? Try ROCKTAPE today, and see how it can enhance your sports performance!

Race Across The Sky! Leadville 100

<
So the Leadville 100 is coming to a theater near you, well hopefully, they say nationwide but who know what that means. Anyway the trailer looks cool, make you think that anyone can finish this race. Lance really opens himself up a lead and seems to keep it, then disaster strikes, a flat tire. This is the suspense that keeps you on the edge of your mountain bike seat. A crazy media filled race. What else could you ask for, see the movie, book your tickets for next year and hit the trail. Who knows you might have what it takes to beat Lance.

Inner Cooler, Keeping You Cool!

This has to be told and all have to start to use this product. What a way to keep you cool, lower your body temp and make you feel good.
The Inner-Cooler Performance Wrap is a personal under garment which uses state of the art “convection” technology to control the wearer’s body temperature in hot climates and during strenuous activity.

Tests show the Inner Cooler reduces the negative effects of an elevated body core temperature by quickly drawing heat away from the surface of the skin and dissipating it into the air through evaporation. The result is improved comfort and performance.

Athletes using the Inner-Cooler report better endurance, less dehydration and quicker recovery times. Just like an engine runs better, longer, and develops more power when it stays cooler, so does your body.

The Inner-Cooler Performance Wrap can be worn before during and after an event. It fits nicely under a jersey, chest protector or neck brace, is simple to use, durable and machine washable.

The 1970s saw water cooling increase motorcycle engine performance by leaps and bounds… In 2009 the Inner-Cooler Performance Wrap does the same for your body… MORE

Watches, Burn Notice - Chase-Durer

Watches are so simple but elegant. Seeing the show Burn Notice a ex spy that lives in Miami, helps people out, blows things up and never get caught by the police, hey it is hollywood and with hollywood come products that you are cool. Chase-Durer, Special Forces is one of those products.
Formed a decade ago by Hollywood film producers Brandon and Marianne Chase, the company structure was based on the need for realistically-priced, top quality Swiss Watches specifically directed to the needs of professional pilots, both civilian and military. The design process began after months of consultation with all categories of flyers. It was only after this research that the precision timepieces went to the drawing boards, then to prototype testing and finally into production.

The reaction to the CHASE-DURER "look" and to its functionality, ruggedness and dependability was instantly acknowledged by the aviation world. Not only were their most important needs incorporated into the watches, but CHASE-DURER created a pricing structure that raised eyebrows within the industry by eliminating the exorbitant profits demanded by other companies making similar (though not as attractive) timepieces. "prices for top quality Swiss Watches include thousands of dollars of profit on each watch for the manufacturer and this is simply not necessary," said company founder Brandon Chase. "There is no need to go beyond fair pricing for top quality to maintain our company's success and our customers' support," said Chase. Today, thousands of military and commercial pilots in many nations covet their CHASE-DURER Watches. Hundreds of unsolicited rave reviews are on file at the CHASE-DURER offices. Many of them are posted on this website. Repeat buyers are counted in the thousands. Following their success in the aviation world, CHASE-DURER entered into another form of military timepiece, the ultra-rugged SPECIAL FORCES Underwater Demolition Team Chronograph series. Again the company met with officers and enlisted men from Special Forces units and, before long, the unique SF 1000 was born.

Since the creation of its first watches, CHASE-DURER has spread its wings and created an entire collection of quality Swiss watches that enjoy the very special "look" and pricing that continue to be the buzz of the industry. The Collection is the largest Chronograph selection of Military, Special Forces, Pilot, Racing, Diving and Ladies' Sport Watches available. The range is complete, from moderately priced models to diamond and 18K gold models. Scores of different choices have been designed to satisfy the needs of discerning watch buyers in every field of endeavor, offering a wide selection of features within a popular price range.

The CHASE-DURER two-year international incremental warranty is possible only because of the stringent quality control maintained by the Company, and the design and construction elements specifically dedicated to dependability and ruggedness.

Headquartered in Beverly Hills, California, the company is a fast-growing Watch manufacturing/distribution company. CHASE-DURER is proudly displayed in hundreds of retail sites, with the number growing steadily. These fine precision instruments can also be found at the United States Naval Academy, West Point and the Air force Academy. Among the many professionals who wear CHASE-DURER timepieces is world-renowned test pilot Robert Gilliland, who was first to fly the SR-71 Spy Plane, THE BLACKBIRD, and who has flown higher and faster than any pilot in history. Among proud owners are Generals, Admirals, Combat and Commercial Pilots, Fighting Ground troops, Doctors, Lawyers, Industry Leaders and so many others who require and enjoy the unique power, performance and design of true CHASE-DURER Swiss precision.

Tens of millions of television viewers have been introduced to CHASE-DURER on prime time network television programs such as JEOPARDY, HOLLYWOOD SQUARES, WHEEL OF FORTUNE, THE PRICE IS RIGHT, SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP and others. Network television host Pat Sajak owns three CHASE-DURER timepieces. Many film celebrities wear the Watches.

For most of the decade, CHASE-DURER Watches have been exposed to millions of magazine readers in full-page color ads in such major publications as ESQUIRE, DISCOVER, SMITHSONIAN, MAXIM, GQ, PLAYBOY, POPULAR MECHANICS, MEN’S JOURNAL, DUPONT REGISTRY, MILLIONAIRE, and dozens more. The company participates in major Jewelry and Watch trade shows around the world. This exposure assures that the company will continue growing its significant Dealer, Distributor and Customer base. CHASE-DURER is a charter member of the AMERICAN WATCH GUILD and serves on the Advisory Board together with CARTIER, ROLEX, JAEGER LE COULTRE and VACHERON CONSTANTIN.

CHASE-DURER for those who know Watches.

Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, Getting Noticed

Electronic shifting is coming, weight is down, problems are fixed, PRICE IS HIGH, but it coming. Tour de France riders are using it, yes pro riders are finding this a reliable solution. The riders to look out for on the new Di2 include Columbia-HTC's Michael Rogers and George Hincapie on their Scott Addicts for the road stages, while for the time trial stages the entire team will ride Di2 equipped Scott Plasma 3 time trial bikes.
It uses batteries and while they are the crutch, if you let the battery runout while ridding you better be prepared to ride home in that gear, NO way around that!
Best of all you have controls for TT and Triathlons, right to the aero bars and off you go, not to worry about hills the buttery shifting makes going up hills easy and smooth.
