Why You Need to Be Doing Burpees
Why You Need to Be Doing Burpees
What is the best predictor of when you’ll die? That seems like a hard—not to mention morbid—question, but, incredibly, study after study is showing that simple tests of physical performance are highly predictive of future mortality.
My favorite recent example is a study from Brazil that tracked just over 2,000 subjects age 50 and up. A 10 point score system was developed to assess how easily they could get up off the floor based on a sitting-rising test (SRT):
Lower SRT scores were associated with higher mortality (p<0.001). A continuous trend for longer survival was reflected by multivariate-adjusted (age, sex, body mass index) hazard ratios of 5.44 (95% CI 3.1–9.5), 3.44 (95% CI 2.0–5.9), and 1.84 (95% CI 1.1–3.0) (p<0.001) from lower to higher SRT scores. Each unit increase in SRT score conferred a 21% improvement in survival. Conclusions: Musculoskeletal fitness, as assessed by SRT, was a significant predictor of mortality in 51–80-year-old subjects.
There was a clear relationship between how easy it was for the people to get off the floor and how long they lived.
A little deeper dive into the data shows that about 95 percent of the people who scored well (between eight and 10) survived over 14 years. Only about 60 percent of those who scored poorly (between zero and three) survived for 14 years, and the number of people who scored poorly increased with age.
And that’s not the only test out there that can predict lifespan. There is now evidence that poor grip strength predicts early mortality in young people.
iWatch, Apples Jump Into Wearable Electronics!
Could this be it! We are all wishing for it, I wear a watch everyday, then I switch to my running watch, then if I am working outdoors, to another. One Watch all the time would be great. Have the ability to see who is calling, play a song, messages, calendar items, meetings, well you get the idea. Now this one looks just like the Nike Fuel Band, but you have to start somewhere and with Nike and Apples partnerships in the past, why over think the concept.
"Though tomorrow's Apple event is shrouded by the usual air of mystery, there will almost definitely be news about a new iPad. The future is less certain for iWatchhopefuls, but in the meantime you can check out this incredibly slick-looking faux mockup of an Apple smartwatch by Berlin-based engineer Thomas Bogner, who posted his concept to Dribbble earlier today.

Bogner, a Nike FuelBand owner, calls his mockup "the bastard child of a Fuel Band [sic] and an iPhone."
Though neither Bogner nor his design have anything to do with Apple, his mockup, whose display features both vertical and horizontal scrolling, evokes some of that glossy, sell-worthy sheen Apple would need to pull off to convince as-yet skeptical consumers that smartwatches are the new smartphones." Christopher Ward C11 TITANIUM ELITE CHRONOMETER - LIMITED EDITION
Christopher Ward, Has done it right!
This is the watch, you can have many others but this watch is it! Powerful, strong, elegant, simple, you could keep going. Try not to be fooled by the $1,030, price tag, this watch is worth much more than that. Save up this will be your go to watch. Omega, has held that honor for years, in my book, but wow you can't deny this watch it's due!Given that amateur geologist William Gregor discovered titanium in Cornwall in 1791, you might have expected us to have introduced this strong and lustrous metal into our range before now.
However, it was worth the wait. The C11 Elite is a true titan of a diving watch and is guaranteed to win admiration and admiring glances in equal measure.
With the strength of steel, but 45% lighter, combining with remarkable anti-corrosive properties (particularly against sea water), titanium could have been created for use in diving watches. When you add the precision engineering of one of the best and most attractive cases available, incorporating an internal countdown bezel, to the finest Swiss made helium release valve and a design that oozes with stylish authority, you begin to understand why our resident diver, Chris, is drooling over this particular watch.
Only 500 C11s in this colour combination will ever be produced which will make this legend-in-waiting even more desirable if thats possible?

Brakeboard gives skateboarders a brake!
The Brakeboard is a skateboard truck (axle) with a built-in brake system. It allows for powerful and controllable stopping and smooth speed control down steep descents.
Until now, stopping or controlling a skateboard down any hill at speed has been a challenge. Foot braking and power-sliding require a high level of riding skill. With the Brakeboard, all riders can enjoy controlled hill descents, either by maintaining a velocity continuously or simply braking from speed at a hill's end.
The brakes fit any longboard and can retro-fit your existing board. They ride like any normal truck retaining the regular turning abilities. Pushing and sliding are also not affected by the brake. You can even use your existing longboard wheels.
The Brakeboard is an excellent way to introduce yourself to the sport of longboarding and, for the initiated, it adds a further dimension to riding.

Designer and founder Anton Willis grew up in rural Mendocino County, with easy access to rivers, lakes, and the ocean. In 2008, a move into a small San Francisco apartment forced his fiberglass kayak into storage. Inspired by an article on new advances in the art and science of origami, he sketched a few ideas for a folding kayak. Sketches turned into countless paper models, and over 20 full-scale prototypes. After user-testing on dozens of bays, lakes, rivers and oceans, Oru Kayaks are ready to explore the world.
