Back Country Access, Stay Afloat on the Slopes

Safety on the slopes is important, first we all started to wear helmets, great move. Now if you are going back country and hucking yourself off cliffs, well BCA (Backcountry Access), they have what you need.

Preventing or minimizing burial depth is the key to reducing avalanche fatalities. That’s because the majority of time in an avalanche rescue is spent on excavating the victim. An airbag is designed to keep you at or near the surface, minimizing excavation time.
Our Float avalanche airbags are the first airbags that are both affordable and easily reusable. A wide network of BCA-authorized refill centers provide unmatched service to Float purchasers. A small 2,700-psi (186 bar) compressed-air cylinder, single-chamber 150-liter airbag, and super efficient venturi system make the Float systems easy to refill, light and affordable.

    MINUS 8, Astro Studio

So we are all looking at movements of watches, hopefully they are swiss. Well The MINUS 8 brand, consisting of products designed in this West Coast culture, is proud of its position on the world stage and takes its name from this international nomenclature. Time is relative. We are only aware of its passing if change occurs. The MINUS 8 watch references our dependence on change through a series of subtle color shifts, each step only visible in the context of the others. This color shift is achieved through the process of Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD.) PVD is an industrial coating process which is inherently time dependent. A raw stainless piece is placed in a vacuum chamber where a hard coating accumulates over time. More time in the chamber produces a thicker coating and a more opaque color. A new wave of watch designers are starting to hit the market, using swiss movements, putting more focus on design. They are great, Professional Watches, has a great assortment of new and old watches with great reviews.

If you are new to the scene check out the directory, to see what you have in front of you. Watch collecting is coming back, so get on the wagon before the prices of some of these new watches gets out of reach.

    Augmented Reality, Good Use

There are many uses for Agumented Reality Game companies are trying to figure out a good use, The Daemon, has some good examples of this as well, along with heads up display. This would fall into both. One delivering info while another updating items as you pass.
European Satellite Navigation Competition in Munich and this beautiful system won the competition. This is a True3D GPS navigation system designed by Making Virtual Solid (MVS-California). In this solution the images are projected onto cars’ windshield to provide a non-distracting and transparent route guidance. With True3D a 3D surrounding is projected over the real world keeping drivers’ eyes on the road. There are virtual road signs for potential hazards and an opportunity that advertisers would love to get their hands to display business logos floating over them.

    Virtual Cable™

Virtual Cable™ is an augmented reality (AR) application for automotive navigation. The system, using our breakthrough
    true-3D technology
, presents a wayfinding line visible right through the windshield; presenting the information as a natural part of the landscape. As you can see in the video below, the line appears to be stretched over the road for several hundered yards in front of the car, above the street-level activity of traffic.
Current GPS systems distract the driver's gaze from the road to animated two-dimensional maps, with a distinct lag as the brain interprets the map information and applies it to the route. Often several glances are required to resolve the differences between the "cartoon version" of the GPS data and the real world. The Virtual Cable™, with its naturalistic perspective and foreshortening, appears to the driver as a solid overhead cable, showing turn-by-turn information way before the driver needs to act on it.

    New Vision, Kayak!

Interesting take on Kayaking. I see that the body is secure but how about the legs. Design is wonderful and if this could transform into a workable solution I am all for it, especially when surfing in the waves.
Freestyle kayaking is a relatively young offshoot of the canoe sport, where athletes perform maneuvers similar to those of skaters, snowboarders or surfers. This freestyle kayak design by David Laudert aims to improve upon the ergonomics, appearance, and overall user connection to the kayak. The athlete “fuses” with the hull and is fully supported within the interior without the use of straps that normally hold an athlete in place, relieving the fear of getting stuck under the boat in the event that it turns over and simultaneously enhancing the adrenaline-pumping experience.

    DemonBells

Each piece in the DemonBell line started individually with an ornamental design inspired from various global and cultural influences. Through extensive testing and evaluation of working prototypes, we have finally produced the fully functional works of art you see here. Each directional weight carries its own unique modifications, from anatomically designed handle grips and specific weight distribution for balance, to specially angled backs to match forearm angles during snatch movements. We designed each DemonBell while paying as much attention to function as we did form.

In blending these ergonomic improvements with the art and tradition of warrior cultures around the globe, we’ve created a new brand, a more performance-oriented bell that truly represents the aggressive and competitive nature of our shared communities—CrossFit, Navy SEAL, Military, Fire Department, Law Enforcement, MMA. You know what it takes to excel in your arena, you know what it takes to dig deep within yourself, to find that motivation to complete that one last rep, that one last step.

We created DemonBells to reflect that mentality, and to inspire you as well as enable you to push yourself even more. There is beauty in movement, elegance in form, and aggression and passion in art. Move and be moved. This is Art in Motion. These are DemonBells.

    Dumbbells Pull Back!

The ReCoil Workout System combines two existing fitness products: a dumbbell and a resistance band. A resistance band is coiled up inside each pod, which are color-coated based on their level of resistance. Each pod can screw onto either the specially designed dumbbell or curl bar, allowing the users to customize their own dumbbell by screwing on the desired pods.

Bike Rack Meets Garage, Not Any More!

Some of have done this, some have done it multiple times and yes the description on the picture is about how you feel. Forget about putting a cone in front when you leave, stickers on the outside of the door as a warning, the Headsup system is your answer.

Bikes. Kayaks. Roof-rack gear. The HeadsUp System is a new, smarter way to protect them all from getting racked. It's a garage-mounted wireless gear alert system that detects when you return home with gear on the roof. When HeadsUp senses your gear, the system alerts you to STOP - so you don't drive into the garage with your gear still on the roof.

The HeadsUp System is a wireless system that keeps you and your gear from getting racked. Just one distracted moment coming home can cause thousands of dollars of damage to your gear, vehicle and garage, so let the HeadsUp System watch out for you.
The system includes an LED alert sign that mounts in your garage, tiny wireless tags that go on your gear, and a wireless alerter that sits in your vehicle. When you return home with your gear on the roof, the alert sign lights up in your garage and the alerter sounds a tone inside your vehicle - reminding you to stop and unload your gear before driving into the garage!

    Simplifying Life, Easy Ride

As everything gets tougher, the one thing that you can count on is being able to tinker with your own car, without any technical gear. Going into the garage turning the key and on goes the car, no checking the electronics, seat belts, airbags, simple..

    Ironman 2011

It is coming and coming fast. As most of us wind down are season so are the pro's, doing last minute races before moving to the island for a couple weeks. Not sure that is such a bad thing, Seems every year more pro's seem to spend a considerably more time on Kona before the race, can't say that I blame them. Spending more time on the island make you more accustom to culture and settings, no food problems hopefully. Note sure how it will all play out the field is stacked and everyone is lining up to be the next champ. Will it be Chrissy or Crowie, who just won his second 70.3 World Title.

U.S. Needs more H2 Bike Run place.

The U.S.A. needs more H2 Bike Run places.

    THE H2 STORY

H2 was created by cyclist commuter Piers Slater who spent 10 years showering and changing in cramped offices and health clubs. Eventually tired of using poor facilities he decided to create a solution.

Cyclist/runner commuters numbers were growing and there was a lack of bike parking or showering/changing facilities for their staff. He saw that a club providing these elements would not only prove attractive to the individual consumer market but could offer a solution for many corporate occupiers. Experts from the fitness and cycle industry were brought together and H2 was born.

The team identified running and cycling as the fasting growing forms of exercise set about being instrumental in promoting outdoor fitness for cyclists and runners. Extras such as cycle repair, retail, dry cleaning and laundry service were introduced as well as running clubs and outdoor circuit training.  Cycling and running is cool and H2 wanted to create a space that people aspired to be part of.

Urban Reef were commissioned to design H2 Soho.  The brief was to create an urban chic club that combined convenience and quality creating a sanctuary for our members. Technology and design ensure the customer can pass through the club as effortlessly and quickly as required or dwell and enjoy the ambience.  Eighteen months of research and design brought together all the best elements of the fitness, hotel and retail sectors to create a truly unique product. The attention to detail in shower, locker and club design has been obsessive at times to ensure our product is the best.  H2 Ride sit at the heart of the club providing the focal point and energy which the rest of the club draws from.

H2 set out to give the member a premium product, a low cost entry level for membership, and, unlike many gyms, a completely transparent pricing policy and no contract.   Slater states, “ Our vision is to create a product that is aspirational but available to all, we will have members who have a base membership at £27.99 and those who take the 5 star service with locker, dry cleaning ecetera, but both will experience, love and appreciate H2 with equal gusto. Customers have the flexibility to tailor H2 to their level of use and budget, that is what really excites us.” Technology has played a key part of this and the bespoke H2 membership system allows customers to manage their account and bookings online.

Research revealed that most runner/cyclist commuters achieved their aerobic exercise on their journey, but there was a significant number who still required top up training. In response, the team decided to include a Core Conditioning Zone (a gym), a Spinning® studio and treatment room, all providing members with the means to complement their outdoor exercise effectively. He continues, “essentially members carry out their aerobic exercise on the way to and from work and use our gym area for a gym work out. For me it is quite simple I would rather run round Hyde Park with my Ipod and see the sky than be in a hot basement on a treadmill running at a wall and not burning us much calories. Our members get it.”

The team identified that customers were fed up with paying for services in the gym they did not use and seeing the expansion of the budget gyms H2 identified a demand for a niche quality club.  H2'ers pay a low monthly membership fee and buy credits for H2 Ride (£3 per class), Personal Training and Sports Therapy as they go.  The gym and running club are included within the membership price starting from £19.99 per month.  Slater said "it is quite simple, we operate our joining and booking online as far as possible reducing our sales costs and overheads which we pass on to our customers."

Inspired by the Spinning® studios of New York, H2 met with Spin experts Sarah and Sandro Morelli. Their combined vision gave birth to H2 Ride – a dedicated room for Spinners® and cycle training, providing the best Spinning® experience London has to offer and taking the sport to a totally new level.  Sarah Morelli enthuses, "H2 Ride  is awesome, we cater for all levels competence and provide an adrenalin fueled experience which fits into your busy day."  Slater finishes, "H2 Ride is out there, it is such a great fun way to exercise, we are already seeing huge demand and we have plans that will take it to new levels."

The H2 team want to make a difference to how we commute and work out and invite you to join us on our adventure.

    Burn Baby, Burn!

This is one of the best ways to start a fire (on a grill of course).

THE LOOFTLIGHTER ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR LIGHTER FLUID.

In Sweden alone, lighter fluid consumption adds up to at least 10 million bottles a year.* This figure does not include disposable grills or petroleum lighter cubes. Since lighter fluid burns at a low temperature it emits a lot of toxic hydrocarbons when ignited. Lighter fluid is based on fossile gasoline and is part of the problem with global warming. Use of lighter fluid and petroleum products in the barbeque always affects the food.

    Endurance Back on TV

Who remembers the Discovery Channel Endurance Race, well it seems like another company is trying to make it main stream. Let hope.

    July 23 - 31, 2011
    BC's West Kootenay

One of the world's oldest and most-recognized expedition adventure races, Raid the North Extreme returns with it's eighth edition in 2011. The West Kootenay will provide an inspiring and challenging race course in true Raid the North Extreme style - Real Wilderness, Real Navigation, Real Adventure.

Over 6 days, four-person co-ed teams will navigate a 500km+ expedition over an unmarked route by paddling, trekking, trail running, mountain biking, and using fixed ropes through the wild and historic West Kootenay of British Columbia.

    Adventure Racers
As a traditional adventure race, RTNX features only four-person coed teams. Frontier provides teams with a true wilderness expedition experience: armed with maps and a compass, they must select their own routes between checkpoints, often navigating more than 75kms with no course markings. Only magnetic north and a sense of adventure will guide their way. Since 1999, teams have traveled from all corners of the globe to be at the start line of RTNX.

MtEverClimb — Continuous Rope Climbing System

In the fall of 1999, something happened that set the wheels in motion for a new invention. At Northern High School, Accident, MD, the rope climb in the gym was removed due to high liability insurance. It was considered too dangerous for students to climb thirty feet without safety equipment.

Darren Kamp, Avilton, MD, who graduated from Northern in 1983 and had used the rope climb during his training for wrestling, had two sons attending Northern at the time. They were also involved in wrestling. He felt that the rope climb was a good exercise, and he didn't want to see it eliminated. Darren decided to create a safe way to climb rope with the help of his brother, Kelby Kamp, Avilton, MD. Together, they came up with Mt. EverClimb, a continuous rope-climbing machine that simulates actual rope climbing.

"After five years of work through trial and error, I felt we had built a rope climb exercise machine," Darren said. "This one piece of equipment enables users to achieve a full-body strength and cardio workout. Some of the benefits of this type of combined anaerobic and aerobic training include increased strength, lean body mass, improved posture and muscle balance, and increased bone density."

The machine features a heavy-duty welded tubular steel frame, a pulley wheel, and a looped rope that creates a continuous climbing action. A front-mounted switch box allows the user to control speed, power, and direction of the rope.

Realizing that he had a unique product with no rival on the market, Darren went to the Invention Submission Corporation (ISC) for assistance in obtaining a patent for the machine (patent pending). ISC also drew up a basic information package on marketing for the product.

The brothers continued to improve the product, and in 2007 Darren met with Beverley Williams, a small business consultant in Garrett County, MD. She took an interest in the product, and introduced him to Casey Willson of the Maryland Small Business Development Center. "Beverley and Casey helped me get a grant from some marketing assistance provided by The Minor Group Inc. (TMG)," Darren explained.

TMG provided a marketing study with recommendations in the fall of 2007, and the next year, the brothers applied for a safety test with the Long Island, N.Y. branch of Underwriters Laboratories Inc. The application was accepted and is in process.

In the meantime, a fitness trainer in LaVale, MD, has been using a Mt. EverClimb prototype in her center for the past two months. "This trainer is very enthusiastic about the machine, uses it personally, and has several clients now using it in their training sessions," Darren said.

The machine has numerous safety and adjustable features that allow individuals to exercise at their own pace, accommodating users at any workout level. It offers a controlled environment within a limited amount of space for a safe climbing experience. The machine can be used for conditioning for the upper body, arms, and shoulders, hands, lower back, legs, and knees.

Darren feels that Mt. EverClimb is ready at this point, thanks to personal financial input and assistance from friends, as well as business consulting advice through the Garrett County Economic Development contract for consulting services with Beverley Williams.

"An old saying I live by has kept me going and gotten me to this point," Darren said. "I worked for so long with so little that I can do anything with nothing."

Profile Design Fast Forward Seat Post

Profile has made the field a little more equal. For those wanting to get into Tri's but don't have 3k or more to dump on a supper fast sled well then try the Fast Forward, the Fast Forward Aluminum is a triathlon and time trial specific seatpost that, when used with a standard road geometry frame, allows the rider to obtain a position commonly found with steeper seat-tube angled triathlon and time trial bikes.
This year just got a little more exciting.
