Soldiers use this device, flood victims are using this, every household should have one of these.
The LifeSaver bottle could not be easier, dip, suck, filter, drink. Image below show how easy the process is.

Surfers Healing, A Foundation for Autism

Autism has been on the rise every year and now reports suggest 1 in every 150 American children, and almost 1 in 94 boys will be born with a form of Autism. If you are into the outdoors and if you are reading this blog there is a good chance you are, surfing is one activity that brings the sense of freedom and relaxation to mind. Well Sufers Healing Autism is one great cause.

"Surfers Healing was founded by Israel and Danielle Paskowitz. Their son, Isaiah, was diagnosed with autism at age three. Like many autistic children, he often suffered from sensory overload-- simple sensations could overwhelm him. The ocean was the one place where he seemed to find respite.
A former competitive surfer, Israel hit upon an idea--with Isaiah on the front of his surfboard, and Izzy steering from the back, the two spent the day surfing together. Surfing had a profound impact on Isaiah. Israel and Danielle decided they wanted to share this unique therapy with other autistic children. They began to host day camps at the beach where autistic children and their families could be exposed to a completely new experience of surfing."

RUSH, Action Camera

Camera's, camera's everywhere and yet we have another one. The RUSH by Martin Ruegg hopes to better the odds of more people capturing stupid, sometimes useful footage. Hey for training and finding where you might be doing something wrong video camera's are great, still they are better for capturing going over the handlebars or even your Mate taking a dive.
"An innovative sport camera for unlimited action during all kinds of sport. The camera is waterproof and has a shock-resistant body. The quintessence of RUSH is the multifunctional attachment tool, composed of three specific parts. In order to activate the camera in any situation, the trigger is placed at the finger and can be pressed with your thumb.
The idea behind this design is to motivate people who enjoy sports to experiment. RUSH hopes to inspire users to experience the dynamics of sports from a unique perspective.
A project by Martin Ruegg."

EARTH DAY!

Not to say that it has come and gone but let do a couple things for the year a make a big difference.
1) lights in your office, go to motion switch
2) Pick up a Grocery Bag and use it every time you shop instead of paper or plastic (Ikea blue bags are the best and big)
3) Bike at least one day to work
4) Turn the background of your desktop to black, less energy used. Did you know that a cathode ray tube (CRT) monitor uses about 74 watts to display an all white web page, but only uses 59 watts to display an all black page?

Easy and simple adjustments to all peoples life's. You don't need to be a tree huger or environmentalist to do your part. Simple less stand out changes make a bigger difference.

Wooden Surfboards, a not so thing of the past.

With Clarks Foam stopping the production of the surfboard blanks, were will boards come from. Well a not so thing of the past, wooden boards. Hess Surf Boards are cranking out wooden boards and they are just as good and will last longer than foam filled (they can send me one anytime). The timeless art of making boards and the quality that goes into making a wooden board is not much different, once you get the pieces of different wood together. Once that is done shaping time. Technology can make many things better but the classic wooden board will make time stand still. Hey since GREEN is a hot topic well this meets all standards.
The weather is upon us.

A new way to see while biking at night, REELIGHT

Remember when you where a kid, a light attached to your front fork and then tilted in, rubbing against your tire, bingo light. Well finally someone has come up with a better lighter less drag, way. Reelight is Danish design and Danish technology.
The lights are based on the electrodynamic induction principle, and work when you screw two magnets on the spokes and fix the light to the wheel’s hub. Electric current is then produced when the magnets pass the light, which incorporates a spool of copper wire. The light then flashes every time the wheel rotates. Simple, effective and ingenious.

Specialized S-Works 2D helmet, SUPERLIGHT

It must feel great to be ridding like you were a kid again, nothing on your head screaming down your street or hill with not a care in the world for safety. This is the lightest helmet in the world and yes you will feel like a kid again. Specialized has something called, Kevlar Intermatrix, "patented uni-directional Kevlar fiber internal reinforcement holds everything together. This InnerMatrix with carbon bridges effectively supports the dual density foam, allows wide-open airflow to vents, and since it's bulletproof Kevlar, decreases overall weight without compromising strength." Whatever, it looks cool, makes it lightweight and changes how you once thought of helmets.

Now go be a kid again!

Running Correctly, Healus

Everyone is trying to find the correct running style, Nike with it's Free, Newton Running and Zoot Sports with its new running shoe. Now all are good and limiting runners from slamming their heels into the ground thousands if not millions of time over a season is smart. Healus is throwing it's hat into the ring, this video does a good job at demonstrating why heel strike is bad and this shoe could be changing all that.

"Revolutionary running shoe

European 5000m record holder Dave Moorcroft tries out a radical new running shoe.

It's been developed by marathon runner and physiotherapist Adri Hartveld who has over 25 years experience in dealing with sports injuries.

He came up with the idea of the Healus Running Shoe - a design comprised of a base shock plate and heel-less sole which minimises heal strike impact - based on his own experiences and from the athletes he has helped treat.

Dave Moorcroft is surprised with the results when he takes the Healus onto the track!"

Doctors Compensated for Online Consultations

All of us are trying to find extra time, if you are not running to drop the kids off, food shop, get out to swim, bike or run, then you are sleeping. Imagine if you could get a doctor to visit your house like in the olden days, that would be great. Well then use technology to get that accomplished, as busy as you are doctors are just as busy. Well now doctors are being compensated for online visists. The Wall Street Journal reports that Aetna recently took a three-state pilot project nationwide, and Cigna plans to start paying for Web visits next year, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Both companies contract with RelayHealth, a company that has built a system for secure, online consults for simple health issues. Patients typically pay the same co-pay whether they go to the doctor or have a Web consult. Insurers pay doctors less for the Web consult — typically $25 to $35, according to the Inquirer.

With these types of initiatives taking place you have to like where things are heading. Full article

Bikes That Are Better Than Your Car!

This coming from Fast Company you know the world is changing or at least starting to look at things differently. Also take into account that these bikes might cost more than your first car or even worse the car you have now. Triathlete's and other high end sports addicts will send more on their equipment than they might on other things like, homes, cars, general living stuff. This article really does point to the high end of bike designs and equipment.
Here are the SIX bikes, for a complete break down go to, Six Bikes That Are Better Than Your Car
  1. Trek Top Fuel 69er
Best for: Cross country trail riding. While the 69er is dual suspension -- both wheels can absorb impacts using air-sprung shock absorbers -- it’s built lightweight with an aggressive rider position, allowing it to climb efficiently and absorb fast descents with equal aptitude.
  2. Intense M6
Best for: Downhill riding and racing. They may not look like it, but downhill bikes are more than motorcyles sans engine. Downhill riders have to be able to carve down the side of a mountain the way a snowboarder might, while maintaining enough control to thread themselves between trees and around sharp corners. That means light-but-strong componentry and a very calculated rider position.
  3. Kona CoilAir Deluxe
Best for: All-mountain riding. All-mountain combines the pedaling and varying terrain of cross-country with more aggressive terrain and bigger obstacles.
  4. Specialized S-Works Ruby SL
Best for: Expert and Professional-level road riding and racing. This bike would not be entirely out of place at the Tour de France -- except for the woman riding it.
  5. Calfee Bamboo Bike
Best for: Expert and Professional-level road riding and racing. While it’s just as much a piece of artistry as a piece of machinery, the bamboo bike doesn’t have to be treated specially, and can be ridden like any other high-end bike.
  6. Orbea Ordu

Best for: Time-trial road racing, in which riders race against the clock instead of head-to-head. Since the fastest time wins in TT racing and every millisecond counts, riders are outfitted with aerodynamic helmets and shoes and race in a tucked-down position.
WOW, bikes start at $2,000 and go to $6,000.

Let there be light, PentagonLight

Now you could run out and get the SureFire but does it come with a retractable sharpened spikes around the bezel that protrude outward only when the spike protector is lowered, I don't think so. Not sure that justifies the $129.00 it is however a selling point. Now the Surefire lights are tough to choose, there must be 50 lights to choose from. Hey just light the night and blind the person that is coming at you!
When did flashlight become a big ticket item, the ones at the Army/Navy store work just fine at $12.95. Your choice one is a defense weapon the other shines light.

Inflatable, foldable Rescue Carrier

Now this is just an concept but can this save time getting to a broken person. Here are some stats from NSAA: National Ski Area Association:
"STATISTICS ON SKIING/SNOWBOARDING

Fatalities - According to the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA): During the past 10 years, about 37.1 people have died skiing/snowboarding per year on average. During the 2006/07 season, 22 fatalities occurred out of the 55.1 million skier/snowboarder days reported for the season. Eighteen of the fatalities were skiers (15 male, 3 female) and 2 of the fatalities were snowboarders, both male. In two of the cases the equipment used was reported as unknown. The rate of fatality converts to .40 per million skier/snowboarder visits.

Serious Injuries - Serious injuries (paraplegics, serious head and other serious injuries) occur at the rate of about 43.7 per year, according to the NSAA. In the 2006/07 season, there were 40 serious injuries. Twenty-four of these serious injuries were skiers (20 males, 4 females) and 16 were snowboarders, (14 male, 2 female). The rate of serious injury in 2006/07 was .73 per million skier/snowboarder visits.

NOTE: A skier/snowboarder visit represents one person visiting a ski area for all or any part of a day or night and includes full-day, half-day, night, complimentary, adult, child, season and any other ticket types that gives one the use of an area's facility."

So the Inflatable Sled to the rescue, you wear it as a backpack then ski to the injured person, unfold and inflate and down the mountain to the hospital you go.

Apple and Nike+ at it again!

Apple and Nike are at it again, no not getting the iPhone to work with the Nike+ but working with fitness companies to bring an integrated solution to the users. Having a user be able to plug into a treadmill, stair climber, stationary bikes, well you get the picture. Full blown athletes seem to have devices like Polar watches and Garmin's that can read your HR and many other functions. But allowing the user to hook right into the machines is really taking it to the next level and increasing the Apple/Nike+ population. They still have not contacted me regarding Health Currency. Oh well one can only hope.

Collapsible Surfboard

Space has become tight and finding a place to put all your stuff is a problem. With surf boards you need at least 6 feet of space and that in anyones home is hard to come by. Well Nicholas Notara, has come up with a great idea, the Collapsible Surfboard. Now I don't think that this is for the die hard rip and shred crowd but the weekend warrior or someone that just want to look cool, you might want to check this out.
"This carbon-fiber board has been carefully designed to maintain the balance and weight of its traditional counterpart, but with the help of two pins and a quick release lever can halve in size. A hot-swappable fin system completes the board with style and presents a viable concept that may make a surfboard purchase not such a bad idea."

Crazy Desgin, Pack what you need!

Crazy design can sometimes workout. This one by designer: Teo Song Wei, really pushes the limit.
"Adventuring thrill seekers know the right equipment is key to a successful trip but making sure you have everything you need is a chore, especially if you’re one that likes to rock climb, base jump, snowboard, etc. The QuikShell bag is a modular concept that snaps on only what you need. For example, you could have one module for rock climbing, one for base jumping, and one for snowboarding. You just snap on which ever module you need to the strap skeleton which comes with comfy padded shoulder pads and pockets for extra goodies."

Cycle Caddy, golf just got interesting!

Golf has some good aspects, mostly being outside and for the pro's they at least walk from tee to tee. For most golf is about getting away and sitting in a golf Kart. One thing that Europe has on the U.S. is they let you do things a little different, like allowing you to ride instead of take a kart. Along come the Golf Caddy, attach to bike and pull your clubs around the course. This is great and so simple. The site is in German so, but the images speak for themselves.

ABC of Fitness, great learning site.

A little hokey but the site is filled with a lot of good Flash videos. ABC-of-Fitness.com claims to be a complete fitness, exercise and health portal. From my poking around it is great at showing you correct movements and positions, along with pointing out muscle groups being work. The fitness area has always been a little tacky but still when you have individuals doing the basic exercises wrong, sites like this have real meaning.

Bang Zoom - Swim Skins are FINA Approved

There are leader's in everything that you do and then there are the ones that play catch up. For most of us catching up is becoming easier thanks to products like Blue Seventy Swim Skin PointZero3. Now others make them ZOOTS, Orca and XTERRA and they all basically do the same thing, shed water like a wetsuit and have low drag coefficient.
The pointzero3 is the product of thinking about getting the best out of non-wetsuit legal swims. Like the blueseventy Helix wetsuit, the super slick surface layer on the pointzero3 has a drag coefficient of 0.032 which is over 50 times lower than skin and more than 4 times lower than other swim skins on the market. The fit and styling have been developed from the world’s fastest triathlon wetsuit, the blueseventy’s Helix, and features the double hoop of high stretch materials, that forms the helix shape after which the suit is named. This extra-stretchy band of lycra, in the pointzero3, works to mechanically decouple the arms from the rest of the suit. When you stretch into the stroke you are normally pulling against the non flexible material of the suit, but in the pointzero3 the lycra bands work to “float” the arm so it doesn’t have to work against resistance. Like the Helix, the pointzero3’s seamlines have been made for swimming, not running like most other wetsuit brands.
Hey everyone wants to be first and with advances like these coming to the sport of Triathlons, who can complain, oh yea the people that we are catching that's who.

Drink from the Hudson

So you need a drink, and you are stuck in the urban jungle called NYC. Contrary to belief, city water nowadays is quite safe and clean to drink. What you smell and taste are trace minerals in pipes. It won’t kill you but the stigma is damning. The BottomsUp concept is a portable water purifier. You fill any PET type bottle with water, screw on the top and like Brita (or Pur), what comes out is a whole lot better tasting.

Now this is just a concept but everyone from kids to the elderly will own one if it really works. It seems to be better then spend a couple dollars on bottled water.

Safe Turn Indicator Light

Big things come in small packages, and the Safe Turn Indicator Light is one of those packages. Here in the states it is getting harder and harder to find safe places to ride your bike, the roadways are getting packed with motorist that don't want to share the road, in a hurry, and truly don't understand why we ride bikes.
The Safe Turn Indicator offers the following advantages:
  • You do not have to learn to use the device, as its use can be combined with your normal hand signals,
  • To accommodate for your individual preferences, the base can be adjusted at 15 degree intervals to allow the tilt switch to function at any angle,
  • Containing 3 LEDs, the indicator is extremely visible and it flashes in a similar fashion as a vehicle/motorbike indicator does,
  • The Indicator is portable, lightweight and has low energy consumption,
  • The Indicator will keep blinking as long as your hand is raised, and
  • The Indicator promotes safe cycling.
Making it easier for people who commute or are training, this product is great.

Snow Kiting

Wow, you can think of all the fun things you can do with Snow Kiting, but the best is how easy it is for people living far from the Mountain on semi open land. Here is a video of the kites in action.
Snow Kiting is the latest winter sport. Large highly controllable foil kites are used to blast kite pilots along with just the power of the wind! The 'Big air' jumps that boarders and skiers are pulling under the power and security of power kites are simply breath taking.
Snow Kiting is a lot easier to learn than kiteboarding on the water!
It is easy to stand on snow, which makes the whole process easier!
It also takes a lot less wind to drive a board across snow than it does across water.
The whole learning experience is lot less daunting as you need much less power and wind to get you moving.
Finally, holding an edge in snow is much easier than in water making up wind progress much easier to master.
All you need is snow and a power kite and you can turn a cold winter's day into a blistering, adrenaline soaked experience!
To Snow Kite you will want a foil type kite since it is completely soft in structure and cannot be damaged easily when the kite is slammed into the ground. Foils are also capable of reverse launching which is very important for re-launching these kites from the snow.
Check it out, Snow Kiting.

Forerunner 405, almost there.

Now Polar has a great bunch of watches and their newest RS800 is not lacking much, since does not have the GPS built in you have to attach somewhere on your body along with the foot pod for running stride and distance. A bit of a pain consider the Forerunner 405 has it built in. Goods and bad to all this technology is that the Forerunner has a built in GPS, but like the Polar you need the foot pod. Mostly for the things mentioned above but if you don't like the weather outside and you want to record your workout, you need the foot pod for the treadmill. Sorry not everything can be in one neat package. Cost is $300 with out the foot pod.
Here is Garmin's verbiage:

"Watch Results

Loaded with serious training features, Forerunner 405 continuously monitors your time, distance, pace, calories and heart rate (when paired with heart rate monitor). Each run is stored in memory so you can review and analyze the data to see how you've improved. You can even download recorded courses to compete against previous workouts or race a Virtual Partner®. Customize Forerunner’s data screens for instant feedback while you train.

Use with Ease

Sport watch and personal trainer — Forerunner 405 gives you the best of both worlds in a sleek, stylish package. This high performance watch is easy to use and comfortable to wear when not training. Simply tap the touch bezel to change screens without fumbling for a button. Forerunner 405 comes in two color options — black or green — to fit your style.

Run, Sync, Store and Share

Once you’ve logged the miles, innovative ANT+Sport™ wireless technology automatically transfers data to your computer when the Forerunner is in range. No cables, no hookups. The data’s just there, ready for you to analyze, categorize and share through our online community, Garmin Connect or our optional Garmin Training Center® software. You can wirelessly send workouts from your computer to Forerunner, too.

Share Wirelessly

With Forerunner 405 you can share your locations, advanced workouts and courses wirelessly with other Forerunner 405 users. Now you can send your favorite workout to your buddy to try, or compete against a friend's recorded course. Sharing data is easy. Just select “transfer” to send your information to nearby units.

Track Heart Rate

Forerunner 405 is available with or without a heart rate monitor (see the versions tab) to help you make the most out of your training. Versions with a digital heart rate monitor continuously track heart beats per minute. Train in a certain heart rate zone to improve your fitness level or compare your pace and heart rate to past performance on the same run.

Cross-Train

Take your training inside with the versatile Forerunner 405. Pair it with an optional foot pod to track your speed, distance and running cadence indoors when a GPS signal is unavailable. This new design clips onto your laces for easy removal and automatically turns on when you start moving. You can also add a speed/cadence bike sensor to track the speed and distance of your cycling workouts.

Lock Onto Satellite Signals

Forerunner 405 sports a unique design that gives the GPS antenna a better view of the sky, so it can get a stronger signal during your run. And its high-sensitivity GPS receiver provides improved tracking under trees and near tall buildings."

GymGirl, Skirts at the Gym

Technology is defined different to many different people, here at TubaDuba, it is anything that helps athletes/fitness buff get better. So when you see women wearing skirts at the gym, well this is something very new. For biking it is not so new Athelta has been overing one for a while. Seeing women in the gym wearing a skirt is well, nice. You have seen for years now the USTA wearing skirts, tiny but skirts none the less, so why has it taken so long to hit the gyms, not sure.
So here is the skinny on the skirt:
"The TRIKS wardrobe staple, this skirt with built-in shorties is everything you’ve ever asked for. Name it…the GymGirl can do it! Made for running, from the local 5k to 26.2, the GymGirl pulls out all the stops. Lightweight, luxurious SpeedSilk fabric gently flows across your thighs while the TRIKSmesh built-in shorties with a 3.5 inch inseam provide modesty and booty-enhancing subtle compression. Yes, the shorties actually enhance your womanly curves. Side slits allow for a little extra freedom without showing it all!

We love pockets. Why? Because we’re women and we’re prepared for anything. Two pockets, one on the side of each leg can hold gels, keys, money, ID, dog treats, you name it! Best of all, the pockets will fit a small music player for those of us who need a little musical-inspiration on the trails. Simply thread your cord through the little buttonhole under the waistband and tune out discreetly (yes, we thought of everything!). Warning: Wearing the GymGirl will lead to a reputation as the fashion maven of your universe. Be prepared for increased popularity!"

Ice Box - Igloo maker

All the technology and innovations can't keep a good kid down. Building Igloos is one of the best winter time activities that one can do, and it last (as long as it is cold) for a long time, weeks. Well Grand Shelters has come up with a sure fire, long lasting helping solution to building a snow shelter.
Here is what Grand Shelters is saying:
The ICEBOX® igloo construction tool is used for igloo building by creating sequential blocks in place. You set the clamps on the form then fill it while packing. after you have filled it you unclamp it and slide it to the next position. A pole with 8 adjustments, 1 for each layer is used to build igloos with the correct catenary shape and to help support the weight of the snow and form while packing the snow. After finishing 6 rows of the igloo you remove the outside of the form as the wall is now leaning in far enough so the snow can be packed from the outside. The snow only needs to hold its form well enough to stay in place until you start the next block. 8 total rows are built including the final cap.

It seems great, the only draw back is the price, yes it is reusable but $179.95 is a bit steep for those of us just wanting to play, hey maybe they will send me one to try out, you never know.

Garmin, Apple, Polar, CES - Showing you the way

It's all changing and going fast, iPhone, Garmin 404, Polar have come a long way in the past couple years, incorporating where you've been to where you want to go seems to be the biggest push to small screens. You have the Personnel Fitness Records (you read it here first), which slowly is making a faster acceptance than the EHR or PHR (personal/electronic health record) and with Nike+ working with Apple /iPhone or related device could be the next frontier in having doctors seeing this as an acceptable format in looking at your records. It would be interesting to see companies like Life Record EMR to work with companies like Health Currency, Polar or Google Health to get a complete EHR picture of a patient. The Best of all it would be stored in one device and permission could be dolled out to whom ever you wish.
Check out CES and get ready for an explosion of cool products in the next week.

video from Best of what's new

How have they done it, buy applying a thin polyurethane coating to a new strong material that resembles pantyhose. It has a four way stretch, fully welded, waterproof and breathable.
